This page will serve as the progress "diary" as I assemble the pieces for my Cal Kestis cosplay.  There are a lot of small components and things to keep track of, and I will do my best to document and "show my work" as I put everything together.

Shirt Construction
I began by drawing up the design flats for the shirt based off high res, in-game images taken from multiple angles and provided by the Cal Kestis Cosplay Group. Once determining the details and construction of the shirt, I laid out what types of seams and accessory/greeblie placements were used on the shirt.
Due to the nature of video game logic, I had to problem solve for a few things that couldn't be seen in-game, or were "fudged" on the model.  For example, Cal's shirt collar features a lapped element, but has no clear attachment or evidence of a lapped front in the body of the shirt.  I looked at reference of Jyn Erso (Rogue One) and Cere Junda (Jedi: Fallen Order) for in-world reference of similar shirt collar treatments.

Jyn Erso & Cere Junda both have lapped shirt necklines, but lack the standing collars of Cal's uniform.

Design Flats
I started with creating the muslin based off a couple different patterns, modifying the neck to create the lapped yoke and drawing in the quilted elements and back horizontal seam.
Leather Cuff
Video game logic in the truest form. The leather wrist cuff wraps back on itself and over/under strategic slits in the cuff body. It also features double layers of topstitching on almost every edge of the cuff.  I had never done leather sewing/stitching before, and learning how to work with leather and hand punch it full of holes was very cathartic.
The reference photos I used were taken by JoEllen Drazan, and I based my cuff pattern on the prototype assembly put together by Inken Timmermann.

Various angles of the cuff. Later on in the gameplay Cal obtains fingerless gloves that, while pictured here, will not be part of the finished costume I am making.

Greeblies & Details
Cal has a lot of little greeblies and attachment rings on his costume.  I've begun experimenting with building them out of foam, and may give 3D printing a try in the future! Stay tuned...
